It's about time and I have no excuse to postpone the upgrade for this little site.
Basically I want to leverage the latest SEO, social networkings tools etc and get rid of the security risks of the older versions. At the same time, I am combining my drupal sites together so I can host new drupal applications more easily.
This video helped me a lot because I was not doing the upgrade properly the first time. I tried to just jump into the latest version directly and that ended up everything messed up so I had to redo the upgrade again.
Good thing is I did the upgrade always in my development server, so that gave me enough time to try and redo everything if that doesn't make sense. And no matter how smooth the upgrade you have done before, don't take for granted it will be the same easy for your next upgrade. Get prepared for the worst and always prepare to jump into database manipulation to fix some accidental issues.
And one thing I feel great is I am switching my infrastructure servers from vmware to XenServer now. There is just so much you can get from XenServer even from the free version. Since I have been heavily involved with XenServer for several of my clients recently so it didn't take much effort to switch the platform. There are many tips and tricks for the performance and implementation of XenServer properly but I will write some follow up blogs about my XenServer practice so please stay tuned.
So far, enjoy and good night.
