There are so many buzz words out there for cloud computing and google type infrastructure etc. It's my first time yesterday I saw the real thing yesterday when I came across in one of the largest data center in Toronto.
It caught my eyes when I noticed whole bunch of high school students working in the data center. They were wrapping up racks and move them closer to the door for shipping away. Then I realized the racks are full of computers. Yes, it's very similar to the Google type of servers which revealed early this year. The slight difference is this type of racks has more room for hard disks and there are 20 servers in one rack. I could not help to count how many racks they have but failed miserably because the square feet of the whole cage is jut too BIG. There are more than 100 racks for sure. So thousands of servers in total. What a cloud.
I believe the theory that cloud computing is based on computing parallelization and data center automation. Auto deployment, configuration automization and monitoring technologies are something must have for the success of this scale of data centers.
I don't know if they are just migrating or upgrading or ..., I hope it's not another bubble bursted.
